The two-corner problem is the structural reason a U is not simply "an L plus one wall." Each corner needs its own solution, and in a U they sit diagonally opposite, so hardware cannot be shared between them. Common Hidden Costs to Clarify Upfront
Most interior quotations exclude these items. Ask your contractor to address each one in writing before signing:
- Electrical modifications — extra points, conduit runs inside false ceilings, distribution board shifts: ₹40,000–80,000.
- Civil & wall changes — partition demolition, door-frame relocation, replastering: priced per running foot; budget ₹500–900/rft.

Getting the U right in a Hyderabad apartment
- Sink on the window wall, hob on the wall with the duct. Verify the chimney duct location before committing — this constraint usually decides which arm gets the hob.
- Do not put the tall unit in a corner. A tall unit needs its door to open a full 90 degrees; in a corner it fouls the adjacent run.
- Keep the utility door on the open fourth side. If it lands mid-arm you lose 3 feet of that run, and the U becomes an expensive, broken L.
- Reduce wall cabinets on one arm. Three walls of 700mm overhead cabinets feel oppressive in an 8-foot-wide room. Open shelving or a taller window on one arm keeps it breathable.
