The Moisture Threat: Swelling and Delamination

When you live near the sea, the air is constantly saturated with moisture. Standard MDF and commercial plywood act like sponges. They absorb this ambient moisture, causing the wood fibers to swell.

Once the wood swells, the laminates pasted on the surface begin to peel off (delamination). Furthermore, the damp wood creates an ideal environment for fungus and mold to grow, leading to a musty smell inside your wardrobes.

The Solution to Moisture

The only foolproof solution is using BWP (Boiling Water Proof) Marine Plywood for all critical areas, especially kitchens and bathrooms. The phenolic resins used in marine ply are completely waterproof, blocking ambient moisture from entering the core.

The Termite Threat: The Silent Destroyers

Vizag's soil, particularly in developing areas, is notorious for subterranean termites. They build mud tubes up the walls of your building and eat the cellulose inside your plywood from the inside out, leaving only a hollow paper-thin shell.

The Solution to Termites

There are two lines of defense against termites:

1. Chemically Treated Plywood: Reputable plywood manufacturers treat their IS 710 and IS 303 boards with strong preservatives (like Boric acid or Copper Chrome Arsenic) during the pressing process. Termites cannot digest this treated wood. Beware of cheap, unbranded plywood that skips this chemical treatment to lower costs.
2. Pre-Construction Anti-Termite Treatment (ATT): For independent houses and ground-floor apartments, the soil must be treated with termiticides before the foundation is laid. For existing apartments, we highly recommend drilling and injecting termiticides along the skirting board line before any interior woodwork begins.
