# Livspace, HomeLane or an Independent Interior Contractor: How to Compare Them Fairly

Company size does not answer the questions that decide how your home turns out. The same brief, compared on the same eight points, does — whichever kind of provider you are looking at.

AlcorOne Solutions is an execution-first interior contracting firm delivering turnkey residential and commercial fit-outs across South India. It is headquartered in Chennai, with offices in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Rajamahendravaram.

We are an independent contractor, so we are one of the options this article compares. We have tried to write it so that it works just as well if you end up choosing a national platform.

## Why the headline numbers do not compare

Platform starting prices, festival discounts and “up to” warranty periods are useful for shortlisting and useless for deciding. Each is attached to a particular specification, a particular scope and a particular set of terms, and none of those is visible in the headline. An independent contractor's per-square-foot rate has exactly the same problem: until you know whether it is on carpet or built-up area, and what it includes, it is a number without a home.

The useful comparison is narrower and more demanding: what will each provider deliver for *your* property, under the terms *you* will sign?

## Give every provider the same brief

Write one brief and send it to everyone. It should cover the rooms, storage requirements, preferred finishes, electrical changes and any civil work. Attach the floor plan and site photographs. Then ask each provider to list anything they think is missing and every assumption they have made.

The assumptions list is the most revealing page you will receive. A provider who assumes standard hinges, a laminate countertop and no electrical changes will quote lower than one who prices what you actually asked for — and both will be telling the truth about their own number.

## The eight points to compare, line by line

| Comparison point | Evidence to request from every provider |
|---|---|
| **Scope** | Room-wise quantities and a written exclusion list |
| **Materials** | Board grade and thickness, finish references and hardware models |
| **Customisation** | Drawings showing dimensions, and any limits imposed by standard module sizes |
| **Execution** | A named site contact and how often supervision happens |
| **Payments** | Milestones, what must be delivered at each, and cancellation terms |
| **Programme** | Start conditions, dependencies on your approvals, and what “complete” means |
| **Warranty** | Coverage by item category, exclusions and the claim process |
| **Handover** | Inspection, snag closure and the documents you receive |

Where a provider cannot supply the evidence in a row, write that down too. A blank in this table is information.

## Read warranty coverage by category

A warranty rarely applies uniformly. Factory-made modular units, branded hardware, on-site carpentry and services work are often covered differently, for different periods, by different parties. Both Livspace and HomeLane publish terms that should be read alongside the specific proposal and the warranty documents you will be given: [Livspace quality promise](https://www.livspace.com/in/interiors/service/service-livspace-quality-promise), [HomeLane terms and conditions](https://www.homelane.com/homelane-terms-conditions). Independent contractors should give you the same clarity, in writing, before you sign.

For every provider, ask:

- Which items does each warranty period apply to — carcass, shutters, hardware, countertop, services?
- Who handles a claim: the provider, or the manufacturer directly?
- Which costs are covered — parts, labour, site visits?
- Do damage, maintenance conditions or later work by a third party void coverage?

Our own warranty tiers are published on our [terms page](https://www.alcorone.com/terms/), and our [kitchen warranty guide](https://www.alcorone.com/blog/modular-kitchen-warranty-hyderabad/) explains how to read the categories in practice.

## Assess the team assigned to your project

The provider you sign with and the team that builds your home are not always the same people, at a platform or at an independent firm. Meet the person responsible for execution. Ask how often you will receive updates, how workmanship is inspected before it is concealed, and how an unresolved issue is escalated — and to whom.

Apply this standard equally to a national platform and an independent contractor. Company size does not answer these project-specific questions in either direction: a large platform is not automatically better supervised, and a small firm is not automatically more attentive.

## Where each model tends to fit

Without making claims about any specific company, the structural differences are worth knowing. A platform model is typically built around standardised modules, catalogue finishes and a defined process, which suits owners who want a predictable package and are happy to work within it. An independent contractor is typically better placed when the home needs non-standard dimensions, civil and services work alongside joinery, or a single team accountable across every trade. Neither description holds for every provider, which is why the eight-point table matters more than the category.

Whichever you choose, the protections are the same: an itemised scope you can check, specifications you can verify at delivery, payments tied to inspected work, and a written record of every change. Our [BOQ vs quotation guide](https://www.alcorone.com/blog/boq-vs-quotation-cost-creep/) covers the first and last of those in detail.

## Frequently asked *questions.*

### Is Livspace or HomeLane cheaper than an independent interior contractor?

There is no general answer, because the headline prices are attached to different specifications and scopes. The only reliable comparison is to give every provider the same brief and compare quantities, material grades, hardware and exclusions line by line. Once those match, the totals become comparable.

### Are platform warranties longer than an independent contractor's?

Headline periods vary, but a single number rarely applies to everything. Warranties usually differ by category — modular units, hardware, on-site work — and by who handles the claim. Read each provider's published terms and the warranty documents attached to your specific proposal, and ask the same four questions of every provider.

### What should go in the brief I send to interior providers?

Rooms in scope, storage requirements, preferred finishes, electrical changes, any civil work, and your budget range, with the floor plan and site photographs attached. Ask each provider to list missing items and assumptions, because the assumptions explain most of the difference between quotes.

### Who actually executes the work on a platform project?

Execution arrangements differ between providers and sometimes between projects. Ask whoever you are considering to name the person responsible for your site, how often supervision happens and how issues are escalated. Ask an independent contractor exactly the same questions.

The fairest comparison is the most boring one: the same brief, the same eight points, and the warranty read item by item. It takes an afternoon, and it replaces brand impressions with evidence you can hold each provider to.

AlcorOne is an independent execution contractor. We issue an itemised BOQ with material grades, hardware and written exclusions, so our proposal can sit beside any other line by line. Send us the brief you sent everyone else.
